Imitation gems are made from man-made materials which don’t exist naturally and don’t have a mined counterpart, such as cubic zirconia, YAG, plastic, glass, etc. They are widely used to simulate gems for cheap jewelry. Imitation gems just look close to mined gems, but they don’t have any features of mined gems. They must be referred to as imitation, artificial, and simulate when they are sold.
